Getting Around Campus and the Community
What We're Doing
Whether we're moving around campus or traveling for business, we're making sure our footprint is as green as can be.
-
Driving green.
We use campus vehicles to travel near and far distances. Our fleet includes over 20 hybrid cars to reduce fuel emissions. We recently added an electric minivan to the fleet for fuel-free carpooling.
-
Supporting sustainable transportation.
Bike ISU serves as your hub for all bike-related information and resources across campus, ensuring Redbirds have a safe and enjoyable biking experience while here at ISU!
Campus is also full of bike and skateboard racks as well as bike repair stations. Our Dismount Zones help the entire Redbird community travel safely across campus.
Our Reggie Rides program also supports a carbon-free commute. This program lets students check out a bike for free at the Student Fitness Center.
-
Moving around campus efficiently.
Some University departments need a convenient way to get around campus while hauling lots of equipment. Many of these areas use electric golf carts to stay environmentally-friendly.
-
Improving all the time.
We can always do more. Here's what we're doing to make transportation even more sustainable at Illinois State.
- Bicycle Friendly University designation: We want to make campus even more friendly for bikes. We also want to add safety and maintenance classes so you can feel confident getting around on your bike. Our goal is bronze or better.
- Support for alternative fuel vehicles and equipment: With our office as a campus resource, we want to make sure the University continues to invest in the most resource efficient modes of transportation.
- Sustainable transportation committee: We're stronger together. This committee will be responsible for providing guidance and input on sustainable transportation across campus.
